The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness is over 60,000 acres, one of the few remaining large wilderness areas in the Midwest. On this trip we will shuttle cars to both ends of the trail and hike to back country campsites along the trail. Each day, we will travel along the lake superior coastline exploring the parks numerous trails and old growth forest. There will be plenty of opportunities for swimming and snapping fall photos. We should be able to check out some of the waterfalls too! Northern lights over the lake are also a regular occurrence.
While this particular trail is only 17 miles long, this trip is considered intermediate to advanced due to the remoteness and rugged terrain. We will be miles from the nearest road. This hike is intended for experienced backpackers who know how to use their gear and pack light. If you are unsure about any aspects of this trip, please reach out to me (Nickofthewoods), I am happy to help you prepare.
We will hike to our designated sights each day and enjoy the spectacular views of the lake shore rain or shine (hopefully just shine). The back country campsites will have a fire ring and bear pole for hanging food.
AS ALWAYS >>> Upon registration, you will receive a recommended gear list. A detailed map and directions will also be provided once the trip is full.
